On Thursday night the JV White team opened district play with a 12-8 win against arch rival Dobie. The Mavs took the opening kickoff and drove down the field. The Offensive line set the tone for the night by controlling the line of scrimmage. Daniel Aguirre, Mason Hinojosa, Jeremy Parada, Justin Rodriguez and Sergio Rodriguez opened holes so QB Joseph Zapata could direct the Maverick attack. Running Back Jose Chavez scored on a 4 yard burst through the line. Later in the 2nd Quarter QB Davion Tolentino punched the ball across the end zone giving the Mavs a 12-0 lead at halftime.
Anthony Tamayo, Alex Alarcron and Israel Davila led the tenacious defensive attack. They delivered devastating tackles and blows to the Longhorns which caused them to fumble multiple times.
“Great Job Gentlemen.” was the word from Coaches Chapa, Stafford and McGough. With the victory the Mavs are 1-0 in district play and 1-1 for the season. Next week they take on the Sam Rayburn Texans.
Congratulations to the PMHS freshmen dark football team for defeating Dobie by the score of 24 to 18. The Mav freshmen were led offensively by Tylen Bennett who scored on 2 long TD runs and Dylen Cisneros who also caught a long TD pass from Angel Martinez. Defensively Adrian Tamez, Roland Alaniz, and Reid Winthrop anchored the defense and fought to hold the horns to only 2 scores. Great job freshmen Mavs!
