Multiple Teams · Mav Sub Varsity Report Week 9

JV Black – 0-42

It was a cold and rainy night at Memorial stadium under the lights as the JV Black team fell to Grand Oaks 42-0. The offense, led by QB Ben Still, Tackles Matt Ramirez,  Jerry Barr and RB Noah Estrada, fought all night against a tough and disciplined defense. With steady improvement from the offensive line, they just fell short of scoring on multiple drives. Defensively, the Mavs forced 2 turnovers on downs with the hustle of linebackers Xavier Torres and Franco Godoy. The Mavs will conclude their season next week against their district foe, Dobie.

JV Teal 16-22

The Memorial Mavericks JV Teal played another close game last night versus Grand Oaks and came up short losing 22-16.  The Mavs stopped Grand Oaks on their last drive and had 1:45 on the clock with 1 timeout to see if they could put one last drive together.  They drove the ball to the Grand Oaks 30 yard line and had several shots at the end zone but eventually time ran out.  It was another gutsy performance and as usual the JV teal played extremely hard.  Next week the Mavs will play rival Dobie.

Freshman Black 0-41
Offensively, Hayden Stallings passes were on point. Everrett Epps continued his tough hard run game.
Defensively, the Mavs had good play from Christian Ibarra. Tackles were made by Ivan Puga, and Adrian Villarreal had one interception.
Freshman Teal 0-36
The Freshman B team lost 36-0 to Grand Oaks.  On a cold night, the Mavs were unable to get anything going offensively.  There were a few good drives, but the Mavs just could not find the end zone.  Rye Williamson did have three nice catches on the night.  Defensively the Mavs had a great first half as they were able to get some key stops, particularly on a drive right before halftime. The Mavs are looking to have a great week of practice and beat Dobie next week.
