JV Gold

3-0

by Coach Edgar Garcia

Congratulations to the Pasadena Memorial JV Gold football team for defeating Angleton by a score of 3 to 0.  The Mavericks and the Wildcats battled all night long as it was a defensive struggle.  The Mavs did show some flashes of offense throughout the game with Gilbert Partlow running the ball hard and gaining first downs on the ground.  Passes were hard to come by on the stingy Wildcat defense but right before halftime, the Mavs were able to strike on a 30-yard completion from Hayden Stallings to TE Isaac Garcia putting the Mavs in the red zone with 30 seconds left on the clock.  A few other passes were attempted but the Mavs came up empty.
The Maverick defense was also very stout all night.  Defensive end Anthony Chukwuma and linebacker Greg Caringer made big plays all game long forcing the Wildcats into punting situations.  The Maverick secondary also played great as Keion Williams, Ismael Gonzalez, and Rye Williamson kept the Angleton passing attack at bay and also played great run support.  The Memorial Mavericks were able to win the game late as the defense forced a bad snap which put the Maverick offense on the 10-yard line.  The Mavericks got all the way to the 1-yard line on 3 rush attempts but eventually settled to kick a field goal for the win.  Benny Garcia managed to split the uprights to put the Mavericks on the board and give them a 3 point lead.  The Angleton Wildcats were able to make a push at the end giving themselves a shot at the end zone with time running out but the Maverick secondary was able to cover and preserve the win.

JV Teal

0-19

by Coach Jacobson Joseph

JV Teal Lost to the Clear Falls Knights yesterday by a score of 19-0.  This was the Mavs second time playing the Knights this season with the results almost identical to the first meeting (18-0).   The Mavs could not move the ball vs the stout Falls defense. The Mavs were in the red zone 4th and goal on three separate occasions and came out with nothing.  “At some point, you have to want it more than them to win those types of downs.” Said Coach Joseph. Isaac Mendez played outstanding at defensive tackle again living in the Knights’ backfield. The JV Teal will be at home next week vs the Dobie Longhorns.

Freshman Black

27-8

by Coach John McGough

It was a beautiful Wednesday evening at Madry Stadium for the Mavericks as they brought home a victory against district foe Channelview.  Leading the Mavericks on the ground attack were Jaylon Bell and Jayvian Nowlin.  Each had several long TD runs.  Joe Reyes also connected with Jimmy Gallardo for another TD.  The offensive line was led by Jaiden Longroia, Rogelio Falcon, Christian Betts, Alejandro Mateos, Monteil Braulio, and Isaac Campos who opened holes for the Maverick ground attack and aerial onslaught.

Defensively Diego Martinez and Jamal Robinson were flying to the ball.  They each came away with an interception to stop the Falcon aerial attack.  Jaelyn Nowlin and Adrian Avina also locked down Channelview’s receivers.  Nick Perez, Brian Tapia, Ricardo Cordova, Aaron Avila, Shawn Armstrong, and Joaquin Fernandez dealt out devastating tackles to the Falcon running backs.

The victory brought the Mavericks season record to 3 – 3.   Next week the Mavericks take on the always tenacious Dobie Longhorns.
